Skin resurfacing can be accomplished using several methods, and they all work by removing one or more layers of skin. The procedure eliminates sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, liver spots, blemishes, and scars. As skin heals and regrows, new collagen is produced, creating tight, firm skin with even tone.
Skin resurfacing is a safe and effective way to rejuvenate your skin and diminish signs of aging. If you’re unhappy with what you see in the mirror, call Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates to learn how we can help.
Lasers have a distinct advantage for skin resurfacing because their wavelengths can be precisely controlled to penetrate to a specific depth. That means Dr. Shahabadi can tailor each treatment to solve your unique skin problems. Some people may only need to resurface the top layer of skin, while others must target deeper layers or multiple layers. Another benefit is that one laser treatment may stimulate new collagen for up to 6 months.
Dr. Shahabadi is one of only a few dermatologists using a method called fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, which gives her the ability to remove fractions of skin at different levels. Using this type of technique treats diverse skin problems at the same time, but it can only be done by dermatologists using the Cortex™ CO2 and Er:YAG laser.
The Cortex CO2 and Er:YAG laser is the only device currently available that delivers two laser wavelengths. The Erbium YAG laser works at the top layer of skin, where it eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to perform a micro-laser peel that targets a small area of skin. The CO2 fractional laser penetrates deep layers of skin. As a result, it removes moderate wrinkles, skin discolorations, and texture flaws.
