Looking to achieve a more contoured and ideal nose shape?
If you find that your nose is a source of embarrassment or that it negatively impacts your appearance then you may be considering a rhinoplasty (aka “a nose job”). Of course, it’s important that you find a team that you trust to listen to your cosmetic goals and to craft the nose that you’ve always wanted. Here at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates, our Fairfax, VA and Chevy Chase, MD, dermatologist Dr. Shabnam Shahabadi and plastic surgeon Dr. Reza Mirali pride themselves on blending the latest surgical techniques with top-notch esthetic skills for beautiful and natural results.
What is a rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure in which our Fairfax, VA and Chevy Chase, MD plastic surgeon corrects structural deformities in the nose to improve both proportion and symmetry. A rhinoplasty can,
- Improve the size of the nose in proportion to your face and other features
- Alter the size of the nostrils or the width of the bridge
- Get rid of a dorsal hump (aka the bump on the bridge of the nose)
- Correct large or hooked noses
- Correct wide or upturned nostrils
Of course, rhinoplasty may also be recommended by our cosmetic team if you have a deviated septum, a condition in which the wall that separates the nasal passages is out of alignment. By correcting this misalignment in the nasal wall we can make breathing through the nose easier and more comfortable.
What to Expect from Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
A rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will be able to go home right after your treatment. We will discuss the type of anesthesia we will use during your procedure to determine whether local or general anesthesia is necessary. By making small incisions in the nostrils we can reshape the cartilage and bone to improve the overall shape and appearance of the nose.
After rhinoplasty, most patients will be required to wear a splint for about one week. There may be swelling, bruising, tenderness and discomfort for a few days after treatment. We will provide you with pain relievers and other ways to manage your symptoms while you heal.
