What is Scar Treatment?

Scars are a long-lasting form of skin damage that commonly develop after acne, injury, and surgery. Many patients seek scar removal treatments in order to minimize the appearance of scars and achieve smoother, clearer skin. There are many techniques used for scar revision, but the technique that is right for you will depend on the size, location, and type of scar that is being treated. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates, we offer a number of scar treatments to help patients improve the skin’s appearance.

How Much Does Scar Treatment Cost?

The cost of your scar treatment at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates can vary, and may be covered by health insurance. If this is the case, we will determine your coverage during your consultation in order to provide you with the exact cost of your treatment. In an effort to keep our treatments accessible, we are proud to accept CareCredit® financing in addition to traditional payment methods.

What is a Keloid?

A keloid is a type of scar that raises from the skin after it has healed. Unlike scars that are smooth within the skin’s surface, keloids have a raised and often rough appearance. To treat keloids, we perform intralesional steroid injections. These injections can help break down the scar tissue, reducing the size of the keloid.

What is Involved in Scar Treatment?

Our typical approach for scar treatment involves CO2 laser resurfacing. With laser skin resurfacing, we use precise laser energy to exfoliate the damaged layers of skin one by one. This eliminates the darkened scar tissue and allows healthy, radiant skin to grow in its place. As an added benefit, this treatment stimulates collagen production, which can further improve your results. However, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary to achieve the desired results.

Can Scar Treatment Be Performed for Acne Scars?

Acne scars are one of the most common reasons that patients seek scar revision treatments. We may recommend subcision or microneedling treatments, which helps stimulate collagen production and restore the skin in the affected areas. Dermal fillers and injectables can also help restore volume in areas that are sunken in due to acne scars. For more severe cases of acne scarring, laser skin resurfacing may be the best solution.
