Liposuction

If you have stubborn fat and would like to enhance the contours of the body, liposuction can be an effective solution. Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates offers liposuction and other cosmetic procedures to men and women living in Fairfax, Washington DC, Arlington and Annandale, VA, and the greater DMV region.

What is Liposuction in Fairfax, VA?

Liposuction, sometimes referred to simply as lipo, is a surgical procedure that removes targeted pockets of fat using gentle suction. While liposuction slims your body, it’s not meant to be a weight loss procedure. It’s best used to improve the shape of your body by eliminating stubborn pockets of fat. Liposuction can be used in most areas of the body, including:

  • Cheeks, chin, and neck
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Back and chest
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs, buttocks, and hips
  • Calves, ankles, and inner knee

Liposuction is also a treatment for medical conditions such as non-cancerous fatty tumors and gynecomastia, which is when a man’s breasts become enlarged. Dr. Mirali has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery, full body contouring and liposuction, which means he knows how to remove fat using liposuction while avoiding irregular contours that can occur when the procedure isn’t performed properly.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

The cost of your liposuction procedure at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates will depend on a number of factors. During your initial consultation, we will review your treatment goals in order to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your personal needs. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of your procedure. In an effort to keep our treatments accessible, we are proud to accept CareCredit® financing in addition to traditional payment methods.

How is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is typically performed using anesthesia to ensure patient safety and comfort. However, we can also perform liposuction under local anesthesia to accelerate the treatment process. This is typically only applicable when treating smaller areas, such as the love handles or the area below the belly button. During the procedure, a small metal tube, called a cannula, will be inserted into the desired pockets of fat. Using a vacuum system, the fat will be suctioned out of the body to create a slimmer, more sculpted physique. Once the desired results are achieved, the treatment is complete.

What is the Recovery Like After Liposuction?

The recovery after liposuction will vary depending on the treatment area and the extent of surgery performed. However, most patients are fully recovered about six weeks after their procedure. Side effects such as swelling, bruising, and tenderness may persist for up to a month, but usually fade within the first week or two. To ensure that the body heals properly, it may be necessary to take time off of work and physical activities following your liposuction treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Mirali will provide you with specific recovery instructions based on your personal treatment plan.

Are the Results from Liposuction Permanent?

Liposuction permanently removes fat from the treated areas, meaning that many patients enjoy long-lasting, even permanent results. However, future weight gain can still impact your results. We encourage patients to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits to ensure their results last as long as possible.
