Breast Reduction

If you are experiencing pain, discomfort or low self-esteem due to the size of the breasts, you may want to consider a breast reduction at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates. We welcome patients from Fairfax, Washington DC, Arlington and Annandale, VA, and the surrounding DMV region.

What is a Breast Reduction?

A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that is performed to reduce the size of the breasts. Women with large breasts often experience pain in the back, shoulders, and neck due to the weight of the breasts. Large breasts can also make it difficult to wear certain clothing or perform certain activities, such as exercise. A breast reduction can reduce the size of the breasts so that they are better proportioned to the size of the body. This treatment can also help correct asymmetrical breasts and the position of the nipples. Dr. Mirali offers years of experience in breast reductions and other breast surgeries to help patients enhance their confidence and alleviate discomfort.

How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?

The cost of your breast reduction procedure at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates will depend on a number of factors. During your initial consultation, we will review your treatment goals in order to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your personal needs. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of your procedure. In an effort to keep our treatments accessible, we are proud to accept CareCredit® financing in addition to traditional payment methods.

How is a Breast Reduction Performed?

All breast reduction procedures are performed with the aid of anesthesia to ensure that the patient remains safe and comfortable throughout the procedure. The incisions that will be made during the procedure will vary depending on the current size of the breasts and the patient’s treatment goals. Most breast reduction procedures are performed with incisions around the areola of the nipples that extend downwards. Once the incisions are made, excess skin, fat, and tissue is removed to reshape and resize the breasts. At this stage, we will also be able to correct nipple size and position, relocating it to the center of the breasts. After the desired results are achieved, the incisions are closed and the treatment will be complete.

What is the Recovery Like After a Breast Reduction?

After a breast reduction, patients often experience bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the breasts. During the first week or two, patients may have to take time off of work and reduce their level of activity to ensure that the body can heal properly. Most patients are fully recovered about six weeks after their procedure, but this can vary depending on the extent of surgery performed. During your consultation, Dr. Mirali will provide you with specific recovery instructions based on your personal treatment plan.

Are the Results from a Breast Reduction Permanent?

The breast reduction procedure can produce long-lasting results, but nothing can prevent the breasts from developing changes in the future due to weight gain. We encourage patients to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits in order to make their results last as long as possible.
