Microneedling

Microneedling takes advantage of the body’s self-healing abilities to stimulate collagen and enhance the appearance of the skin. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates, we offer several microneedling treatments to patients living in Fairfax, Washington DC, Arlington and Annandale, VA and the nearby communities.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a rejuvenation technique that can treat scarring, wrinkles, large pores, stretch marks, and pigmentation issues. Microneedling uses tiny needles to make microscopic punctures in the skin. This triggers a healing response from the body, which produces more collagen in an effort to repair the damage to the skin. When collagen increases, the skin heals and receives numerous benefits, including increased volume and elasticity. Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates is proud to offer multiple microneedling techniques, including both SkinPen® and Vivace™.

Microneedling in Fairfax, VA

How Much Does Microneedling Cost?

The cost of your microneedling treatment at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Associates will depend on a number of factors, including the technique used and the size of the treatment area. During your initial consultation, we will review your treatment goals in order to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your personal needs. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of your procedure. In an effort to keep our treatments accessible, we are proud to accept CareCredit® financing in addition to traditional payment methods.

What is SkinPen® Microneedling?

SkinPen® is a microneedling treatment that is performed using a pen-shaped device. The SkinPen® treatment is commonly used for acne scars, but is an effective microneedling treatment for patients of all ages and skin types.

What is Vivace™ Microneedling?

Vivace™ microneedling combines radiofrequency energy with traditional microneedling techniques for optimal results. The radiofrequency component helps tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production for more noticeable anti-aging benefits.

What is the Microneedling Treatment Like?

The microneedling treatment begins with the application of a topical anesthetic to the treatment area. This helps to minimize any discomfort from the treatment process. Then, the microneedling device will be used to create tiny punctures in the skin. The length of treatment can vary depending on the size of the area being treated, but most for most patients the treatment takes approximately one hour.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect After My Microneedling Treatment?

After your microneedling treatment, it can take a few days for the skin to heal and for results to become visible. Results will improve as collagen increases and takes effect in the body, but many patients notice significant improvements about one to two months after treatment. Patients may continue to notice gradual improvements for as long as six months. We typically recommend a series of three or more microneedling sessions to achieve optimal results.

Is There Downtime After Microneedling?

After your microneedling treatment, you will experience mild tenderness, redness, and swelling in the skin. These effects should fade within a few days as the skin begins to heal. Although patients will not have a significant recovery period, you may choose to take a day off of work or other activities to allow the skin to recover from treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Shahabadi will provide you with more specific instructions regarding how to care for your skin as you recover.
